As you continue to care for your garden this summer, we wanted to remind of you of some safety tips to help reduce your risk of injury:
-Be sure to warmup before you begin. This includes stretching your sides, wrists, hamstrings, thighs, shoulders and back.
-When lifting, be sure to bend your knees and keep your back straight. Use your arm and leg muscles to slowly lift the object. If it is a heavy object you need to move, recruit help – many hands makes a light load. To avoid injury, do not lift heavy objects above your shoulders.
-Alternate between heavy and light lifting.
-When pulling weeds or planting, use knee pads or a kneeling mat to avoid putting strain on your knees.
-Remember to take frequent breaks to give your body recovery time, and to hydrate.
